Celebrating Personality, Bond, and Beautiful Moments

There’s something really special about working with dogs who need a little extra understanding, and Eevee was exactly that kind of girl.

When Lou and Ryan first got in touch, I knew from our pre-session consultation that Eevee could be a little unsure around new people. Those conversations are such an important part of the experience for me — they give me the insight I need to make sure everything is tailored to each dog as an individual. By the time we met, I already had a clear plan in mind for how to approach things in a way that would help Eevee feel safe and in control.

True to form, Eevee let me know what she thought of me at first — I got a bark when we met. Honestly, I expect that sometimes, and I never take it personally. It’s simply communication. From that point on, it’s about listening, giving space, and letting the dog set the pace.

And that’s exactly what we did.

We chose a location that was convenient for all of us, but more importantly, one that suited Eevee. It didn’t take long to see that she absolutely loved it there. Eevee is a black Cockerpoo, though she looks very much like a Cocker, and photographing black dogs requires a lot of experience.

We kept things relaxed throughout, taking breaks whenever she needed them. There was no pressure, no rushing — just time, patience, and letting her settle into the experience.

The variety we created during the session is something I’m really proud of. We captured beautiful action shots of her moving freely and naturally, full of life and energy. There’s something about those moments that really show who a dog is, rather than just how they look.

Family silhouettes are always so sweet

We also created some more artistic portraits, including silhouettes that feel timeless and a little bit different. One of my favourite moments was capturing Eevee giving her paw to Lou — it’s such a simple interaction, but it says so much about their bond. Those are the kinds of images that tend to mean the most over time.

An absolutely adorable moment

Alongside that, we made sure to capture a classic headshot, focusing purely on her expression, and a family portrait with Lou and Ryan. Those images often become the most treasured — not just because of how they look, but because of what they represent.

This might be my favourite portrait from the session

Some might call it a bad hair day… I call it personality ;)

At their ordering appointment, Lou and Ryan chose a stunning folio box, which is such a beautiful way to keep and enjoy their images. Seeing people experience their photographs for the first time is always one of my favourite parts of the whole process. There’s something about holding printed artwork that just can’t be replicated on a screen.

Unwrapping is always so exciting

What meant the most to me is that they all enjoyed the experience as much as they did. That’s always the goal — not just to create beautiful images, but to make the whole process feel calm, considered, and genuinely enjoyable for both the dog and their people.

Eevee may have been unsure at the start, but she did brilliantly. Watching that shift — from uncertainty to confidence — is always such a rewarding part of what I do.
