Nestled near Havant, Staunton Country Park is a hidden gem brimming with natural beauty, historic charm, and an incredible variety of backdrops. From grand landscapes to rustic textures, and vibrant pops of colour, this location offers everything you could want for your pup’s portrait experience. That’s why it’s one of my favourite locations for capturing your furry friend's timeless portraits - luckily, I have exclusive licence to photograph at this stunning park.

Historical Background

The origins of Staunton Country Park trace back to the late 18th century when the first house was constructed between 1783 and 1788 for Samuel Harrison. In 1820, Sir George Thomas Staunton, a noted botanist and politician, acquired the estate, then known as Leigh Park. Sir George significantly enhanced the grounds, introducing features such as the ornamental lake, various follies, and an extensive collection of exotic plants reflecting his botanical interests. Following his death in 1859, the estate changed hands multiple times, eventually being purchased by the city of Portsmouth in 1944. The park was officially established as a country park in 1987.

Staunton Country Park provides the perfect setting for any pet guardian wanting to showcase their pup in a stunning and diverse environment. Whether your pup loves to pose in a vibrant wildflower field, among autumn leaves, or against the rich red bricks of the walled garden, there’s a backdrop to suit their personality. The variety of scenery means every portrait session is completely unique, making it the ideal location for capturing beautiful, one-of-a-kind images of your dog.

Dog-Friendly and Perfect for Exploring

One of the reasons I absolutely love this location is that it’s fully dog-friendly, including the cafe. The park provides ample open space for your pup to stretch their legs and explore, with woodland trails for those who prefer a cooler stroll. It’s the perfect combination of adventure and relaxation, making it an ideal location for a laid-back portrait experience.

Even if you’re not having portraits taken, Staunton Country Park is an amazing place to visit. It's the perfect spot for a day out with your four-legged companion, offering plenty of areas to explore and enjoy together.
